CRP Subsea have been awarded a contract to provide buoyancy in Western Australia

Distributed buoyancy modules (DBMs) will be supplied to a large gas field situated in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Western Australia.

Building on the success of securing orders for flexible riser buoyancy and bend stiffeners for this field last year. CRP Subsea has recently secured a contract with a leading global umbilical manufacturer. This contract involves the supply of distributed buoyancy modules (DBMs) to a large gas field situated in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Western Australia.

CRP Subsea’s DBMs will be used on a dynamic umbilical that will carry power, fluids and fibre optic cables to the floatation unit above. By maintaining a carefully engineered lazy wave configuration, the DBMs will effectively reduce the top tension exerted on the floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. A high capacity compliant internal clamp will be employed, designed to provide a controlled uniform circumferential clamping pressure. This will maintain the DBMs position and eliminate the risk of pipeline damage, thereby prolonging the lifetime of the field.

James Hughes, Sales Engineer at CRP Subsea states:

"We are thrilled to be chosen for this important project. Leveraging our group's wide range of technologies, we were able to offer a comprehensive technical solution. The urgency of the delivery requirements associated with this contract highlights our customer’s confidence in our ability to deliver quality products on time. By being able to fulfil this urgent requirement, we have assisted a key customer and ensured the project’s success. We look forward to future partnerships and the opportunity to make further project contributions."

Manufactured at CRP Subsea's state-of-the-art-manufacturing facility in the North West of England. Project engineering works will start imminently, with final delivery later this year.

Product information

Distributed buoyancy modules (DBMs) are typically used between structures and a surface vessel or platform, providing uplift generated by a two-part buoyancy element and a clamp. CRP Subsea's unique clamping solutions utilise a uniform circumferential clamping pressure to eliminate the risk of damage to the pipeline. The clamp also allows DBMs to be securely attached at any point along the length of a rigid or flexible pipeline or cable and ensures the modules maintain their position.
