Advanced ROV-installed insulation covers successfully deployed in Azerbaijan
A prominent Italian Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) customer required high-temperature subsea insulation covers to fit around various steel structures and be installed by a remotely operated vehicle (ROV).
The solution needed to be lightweight, ROV-compatible, and thermally efficient (up to 92 °C) to ensure reliable insulation over a 25-year service life at a water depth of 470 metres.
The highlights
Polymer expertise
Our deep expertise in polymer technology combined with an extensive range of materials.
Tailor-made solutions
Engineering excellence in designing bespoke, fit-for-purpose solutions to meet specific customer requirements.
Turnkey capabilities
A comprehensive turnkey solution encompassing design, analysis, manufacturing, and in-house performance testing.
Solution
Utilising our extensive range of ContraTherm® materials, we carefully selected the most suitable options tailored to the project's specific service conditions, loads, and constraints. Our flexibility and efficiency were instrumental in delivering an optimal insulation cover solution. By harnessing our advanced polymer development capabilities, we designed a bespoke hybrid solution composed of steel, polyurethane, silicone, and low-density foam, specifically engineered to meet the unique challenges of this project. Small buoyancy elements were added to make the system almost neutrally buoyant, to facilitate ROV installation. Each polymer component, backed by established qualification and a proven track record, minimised risk and guaranteed a high-quality product.
Results
We successfully delivered a customised insulation covers solution for use in the Caspian Sea that passed rigorous qualification and testing programs, ensuring it met the client's exact requirements. By fulfilling all the customer's needs and delivering a robust high-quality product, we paved the way for future collaborations with this prominent Italian EPC customer.
